The Beginning

From a Campfire Conversation

Lunar Ocean Realm was born on a crisp April evening in 2019, around a fire at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Founders Oliver Hargreaves and Mia Chen — a leather craftsman and a mountaineer — found themselves lamenting the same thing: that outdoor equipment had abandoned beauty for bulk.

The market offered gear that performed, or gear that looked good. They wanted both — in every single piece. What began as a shared frustration became a workshop, a workshop became a brand, and a brand became a movement.

Today, Lunar Ocean Realm curates and crafts the world's finest outdoor luxury, sourced from artisans in Florence, workshops in Melbourne, and suppliers committed to the same obsession with quality that started it all.

Co-Founder & Head of Product

A third-generation leather craftsman with 15 years of experience in artisan workshops across Florence and Kyoto. Oliver's hands have shaped every product philosophy at Lunar Ocean Realm.

Mia Chen

Co-Founder & Chief Explorer

A mountaineer who has summited seven of the world's highest peaks. Mia brings field intelligence to every product decision — if it can't survive a Himalayan winter, it doesn't make the cut.

James Calloway

Creative Director

Formerly at Hermès Paris and Aesop, James joined Lunar Ocean Realm in 2021 to translate the brand's field philosophy into a visual language — one that's as wild and considered as the landscapes we inhabit.

The Lunar Ocean Realm Story

2019

The First Spark

Oliver and Mia meet at a Blue Mountains expedition camp. The idea for Lunar Ocean Realm is born around a campfire after lamenting the lack of beautiful, functional outdoor gear.

2020

First Collection Launches

Our first six products go on sale — all hand-sourced from Italian artisans. The Heritage Leather Backpack sells out in 48 hours. We receive our first international order from New Zealand.

2021

Sydney Flagship Opens

We open our King Street showroom in Sydney — a 200sqm space designed to feel like an expedition basecamp. James Calloway joins as Creative Director.

2023

B Corp Certified

Lunar Ocean Realm achieves B Corp certification, formalising our commitment to people, planet and craft. We also launch our lifetime repair programme for all leather goods.
